Lisa: why our new Pollok home is exactly what we were looking for

A Wheatley Homes Glasgow tenant says her new family home in the south of the city is “exactly what we were looking for”.

Lisa Kitson moved into her new three-bedroom home in St Edmund Court, Pollok, in April this year, along with husband Patrick and sons, Lewis and Harris.

Harris, five, is autistic and also needs regular hospital treatment and Lisa says having his own bedroom for the first time is making him happier and giving him more freedom.

The family moved from Renfrew and Lisa said landing her new house with Wheatley Homes Glasgow came at just the right time.

Lisa, 33, said: “We couldn’t be happier. Our new home is exactly what we were looking for. It came out of the blue just when we needed it and we’re really grateful.

“This is the first time Harris has had his own bedroom, so he has more freedom, he’s much happier, and he’s been out to play with other kids too.

“He goes into hospital regularly, and knowing he has a brand new clean and safe room to come back to makes such a difference. He’s never had his own space until now.

“There’s a secure back garden too where we can sit outside and not worry about Harris. He loves the trampoline there. It really helps and is good exercise for him.

“It’s such a nice house. We can’t believe how lucky we are that something so good came into our lives at just the right time.”

Wheatley Homes Glasgow, part of Wheatley Group, completed the 26 homes for social rent at St Edmund Court earlier this year.

The £5.6m development, which included a £3m grant from Glasgow City Council, is a mix of 15 two-bedroom, six three-bedroom and two four-bedroom homes, plus three wheelchair adaptable cottage flats. It was built by contractors CCG.

The homes in St Edmund Court are highly insulated, cutting down on carbon emissions, and they also feature energy-efficient boilers and solar panels.

Hazel Young, Wheatley Group Director of Housing and Property Management, said: “I’m thrilled to hear how much Lisa and her family are enjoying their new home and it’s great that Harris is benefiting so much from his new bedroom.

“New homes can change people’s lives and transform communities. The 26 modern, safe, energy-efficient homes on this development are a great addition to this part of Pollok and to the south of the city as a whole.”

Last year, Wheatley Homes Glasgow built 205 homes across the city, including 42 at Kennishead Avenue, 23 at Auchinlea Road, Easterhouse and 22 at Carnwadric Road.  Scotland’s largest social landlord is also on site building 123 new homes at Calton Village, 47 in Watson Street in the Merchant City, as well as 198 homes in Sighthill. Wheatley Group is planning to build 4000 new homes across Scotland by 2026.
