Wheatley staff help tenants with millions of pounds of support

The fuel advisor service offers tenants free expert advice on how to heat their home and on reducing energy consumption.

In the last 12 months, 4574 customers of Wheatley Homes Glasgow, Wheatley Homes South, Wheatley Homes East and Lowther Homes have been supported to save £404,147.42.

The biggest saving was made by Wheatley Homes Glasgow customers, who were helped to save a total of £308,844.70 on their fuel bills.

Wheatley Homes Glasgow tenant Hugh Hunter from Milton, Glasgow, is one of more than 4000 people helped by the fuel advice team in the last 12 months.

Hugh Hunter, 55, said: “The support from the fuel advice team has made such a big difference.

“My fuel advisor Ingrid has been brilliant and I can’t sing her praises enough. She has always gone above and beyond the whole time to help me, giving me advice on fuel use, budgeting and helped me access other support that Wheatley offer its tenants.

“There are people out there who can help if you are struggling. This service is a credit to Wheatley.”

Wheatley’s fuel advisors offer advice on bills, reducing energy consumption and managing any debt. Advisors can also speak to fuel providers on behalf of the tenants and arrange low-cost payment arrangements to clear debt.

Hazel Young, Wheatley Group Director of Housing and Property Management, said: “We’re doing all we can to support our tenants in these difficult times.

“Fuel bills are a real concern for many of our tenants, with many being unwilling to put their heating on due to the fear of the cost.

“The service is available to all of our tenants to use and can make a big difference, particularly during this cost-of-living crisis. If you are struggling, we are here to help.”

Tenants who want to book an appointment with a fuel advisor should contact Wheatley’s Group’s Customer First Centre on 0800 479 7979.
