Staff from Wheatley Group are getting ready to kick off a fundraiser for a leading cancer charity.

The team from Wheatley – Scotland’s leading housing, care and property-management group – is raising funds for Beatson.

Players from Wheatley will take on colleagues on Saturday 4 March at Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow.

With many of the team being affected by cancer through close friends or family, choosing the Beatson Cancer Charity was an easy decision.

The charity event will be the start of a wider football initiative within Wheatley Group.

Following suggestions from staff, a focus will be on supporting staff of all ages and abilities to get involved in football. This will include daily football activities for staff, including walking football and the launch of women’s football.

Environmental Team Leader Elliott Gibb, who is behind the fundraiser, said: “The charity game is a great opportunity to encourage inclusion while raising funds for an amazing organisation.

“The Beatson supports a cause close to our hearts with most of the team having known someone with cancer and having seen the fantastic work the charity does.

“Football is a great activity for everyone and is a great tool to get people involved. It really supports mental and physical wellbeing.

“We are looking forward to raising money for a great cause and bringing more football to Wheatley. Any donations for the charity match will be greatly appreciated.”

Director of People Services Joanne Laverty said: “Supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of our staff is incredibly important at Wheatley.

“Getting involved in sports is a great way to support physical and mental health, and this is a great opportunity for our staff to get together while keeping fit.”
