The new homes, in Shandwick Street, Easterhouse, will transform a site which has been empty since tenements there were demolished in 2012.

The development will be a mix of one and two-bedroom terraced homes, semi-detached and cottage flats, all for social rent. Six flats will be wheelchair adaptable.

The homes will have low-carbon features including solar panels, energy-efficient gas heating and high levels of insulation, and will have high-speed, fibre-optic internet connection too.

Work will start this month and the homes should be ready by the end of next year.

The contractor is CCG and the £11.2million project is being built with grant assistance of £7.6m from Glasgow City Council.

Wheatley Homes Glasgow is part of Wheatley Group, Scotland’s leading housing, care and property management group.

Frank McCafferty, Wheatley Group Director of Repairs and Assets, said: “We know how new homes can transform communities and this development will play a big part in the continuing regeneration of this part of Glasgow’s east end.

“The low-carbon features of the homes mean tenants will use less energy, helping us tackle fuel poverty and reducing costs for the people living in them.

“We’re grateful for the support from our partners at Glasgow City Council and the Scottish Government in helping us build these much-needed new homes.”

The community benefits clause in all Wheatley new-build and investment contracts mean jobs and training opportunities will be provided during the contract.

Shandwick Street is the latest development from Wheatley Homes Glasgow in Easterhouse. Scotland’s biggest social landlord built 75 new homes in Conisborough Road in 2014 and another 57 homes in Auchinlea Road in 2021.

Wheatley Homes Glasgow built 119 new homes last year and is on site building 450 more, including at Sighthill, Calton Village and Pollokshaws.
