Why tenants in Castlemilk love their community

GHA is working with Keep Scotland Beautiful (KSB) to help keep neighbourhoods clean and green.

KSB has its own National Award for Environmental Excellence and has been training tenants to take part in walkabouts to assess their own communities.

Tenants in Castlemilk took part in the first walkabout recently – and rated their community as five-star.

They joined GHA staff in the walkabout, and looked at things like foyers and closes, back courts and open spaces – as well as graffiti and dog-fouling and more.

They praised the entrance and foyers of the Dougrie Place high-rises, as well as the cleanliness, the standard of grass cutting and the lack of litter.

Tenant Cathy Gilmour, of Dougrie Place, said: “We’ve really enjoyed working with KSB and getting involved.

“The concierges up here keep the place immaculate, inside and out. It really is spotless. That makes people want to look after their area.

“I’ve been here for a long time and I’m proud of my community.”

GHA’s Steven Gray said: “Tenants are really excited about helping make their communities great. People really care about their neighbourhoods – and we want all our residents to be proud of where they live.”

The next communities in the south of the city for assessments are Kennishead and Dumbreck.
