Why it is good to get engaged

Tenants in the North East of Glasgow got closer to GHA staff over the summer.

GHA’s ‘engagement vehicle’ was out over the summer visiting communities across the North East talking to tenants about what matters to them.

Tenants also took part in a short survey, giving their views on rents, repairs and GHA services including welfare benefits and money advice, Home Comforts, fuel advice, the Tenancy Support Service and more.

Hugh McFarlane and Thomas Carey were two of the tenants who visited the engagement van.

Hugh, from Carntyne, said: “The van was a good idea because it gave people a chance to talk to staff face to face and raise any concerns they had.

“GHA staff are very supportive. If you have a problem, staff are there to sort it out.”

Thomas, also from Carntyne, added: “It’s important for GHA to be visible, to be out and about in the community.

“It’s important to be open and for staff to talk and listen and respond to what tenants say.

“I’ve noticed a real improvement in the repairs service. That’s a good example of GHA listening to tenants and doing something about it.”

Area Housing Manager Margaret Crawley said: “It’s not always convenient for customers to visit our office, so the engagement van was a good way for us to visit communities and listen to people’s views.”

Five tenants who completed a survey about GHA services won shopping vouchers in a prize draw.

As well as Thomas Carey and Hugh McFarlane, the other winners were Lorraine Aiton from Dennistoun, and Michelle Boyle and Elizabeth Wheatley from Carntyne.
