If you are having difficulty using parts of your home – such as getting in and out of the bath, managing stairs, or accessing your property – speak to your housing officer, contact our Customer First Centre on 0800 479 7979 or get in touch using our online form.
In some cases, we may refer you to an occupational therapist (OT) who can assess your needs and recommend the most appropriate support.
Small disabled adaptations
Some small adaptations can be arranged through your housing officer.
We can fit:
- handrails
- grabrails
- lever taps
- higher or lower power points
- an overbath shower
Large disabled adaptations
Larger adaptations usually require an OT assessment.
We can fit:
- ramps
- wet floor showers
- door widening for wheelchair access
- stairlifts
How occupational therapy can help
Occupational therapy services look at how people manage everyday activities in their home.
An occupational therapist may explore a range of options to help maximise independence, including:
- advice on different techniques
- recommending housing adaptations where appropriate
- rehabilitation or strengthening approaches
- equipment or minor adaptations
The aim is to identify the most suitable solution for each person’s individual needs.

Housing options
The right home environment can help people stay independent and continue doing the things that matter to them.
In some situations, adapting a property may not be the best or safest option. In these cases, it may be helpful to explore alternative housing options that better meet your needs.
Your housing officer can help explore your housing options, including moving to a more suitable property.
